Correx, Inc. is developing a system to facilitate safe and rapid implantation of an aortic valve bypass. The most technically challenging aspect of the procedure is the insertion of an apical left ventricle connector into the apex of the left ventricle. While currently available equipment requires the surgeon to sequentially 1) form a hole in the apex of the ventricle, followed by 2) insertion of the left ventricle connector, the Correx system is intended to allow "one-shot" insertion of the left ventricle connector, with negligible blood loss and minimal effects on hemodynamics.
